Movie producer Wong Pak Ming sentenced to jail and fined in SFC’s insider dealing prosecution

On 9th June 2026,The West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court sentenced prominent film producer Mr.Wong Pak Ming to five months of imprisonment following a successful criminal prosecution by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for insider trading. Mr. Wong, the former chairman and controlling shareholder of Pegasus Entertainment Holdings Limited, was convicted of illicitly exploiting non-public, price-sensitive information regarding the 2017 disposal of his controlling stake. Specifically, he systematically tipped off his sister via encrypted messages and financed her acquisition of over nine million shares prior to the official market announcement.

Consequently, the court ordered Wong to pay a $99,720 fine equivalent to the illicit profits realized and $374,305.48 in SFC investigation costs. Overall, this custodial sentence underscores heightened regulatory enforcement in Hong Kong’s capital markets and serves as a stark warning that abusing fiduciary access to corporate data carries severe legal and financial penalties
