FCA to Pilot Reporting Requirements for ESG Ratings Providers

On 28 April 2026,the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) invited ESG rating providers to pilot a proposed reporting regime, following the UK’s decision to bring the sector under formal regulatory supervision. This initiative aims to refine disclosure requirements regarding rating methodologies, objectives, and the specific environmental, social, and governance factors assessed.By testing these metrics for clarity and feasibility, the FCA intends to minimize future compliance burdens while ensuring transparency for investors. The pilot is open to both domestic and international providers operating within the UK market. Insights gained will directly inform the final regulatory framework, which the FCA expects to codify by Q4 2026, with an effective date scheduled for June 2028. This strategic move underscores the regulator’s commitment to enhancing market integrity and standardization within the ESG data ecosystem, ensuring that ratings remain robust, comparable, and useful for institutional decision-making.
