Stegra finished a €1.4 billion funding round led by Wallenberg Investments group. New investors including Bolero, SEB-Stiftelsen and Temasek joined, while old shareholders and all lenders fully backed the deal. The money will build its low-carbon steel factory in Boden, Sweden, one of Europe’s biggest industrial decarbonization projects supported by EU and Swedish public funds. This deal improves Stegra’s equity ratio and financial strength amid tight market funding conditions. It proves large green heavy industry projects can attract long-term investment, matches EU goals to cut carbon and secure local material supply chains. Though the factory construction still has delivery risks, strong financial and policy support may create a successful business model for green steel across Europe.
