The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) have launched the Anti-Scam Consumer Protection Charter 2.0. Building on the success of the previous charter, the new version expands the coverage by involving over 230 financial institutions and merchant institutions from various sectors. The Charter aims to help the public protect themselves against credit card scams, digital fraud, and phishing messages. Participating institutions commit to not sending electronic messages with embedded hyperlinks to acquire personal information and to provide anti-scam education messages.
The launch event featured Mr. Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the HKMA, expressing satisfaction with the positive community response to the previous charter and emphasizing the importance of the expanded Charter 2.0 in enhancing public protection. The event also included discussions on the current landscape of scam activities and the preventive measures implemented by institutions. The HKMA reminds the public to be cautious when handling suspicious links and to avoid clicking on them indiscriminately.
