Team leader of Three-Runway System Project charged by ICAC jailed for 17 weeks for accepting bribes from imported workers

A team leader of carpenters at Hong Kong’s Three-Runway System Project was sentenced to 17 weeks in jail for accepting bribes totaling about $54,000 from 10 imported workers. The workers paid between $4,800 and $5,400 each to the leader, who had told them their employment would end without the payments. The case, investigated by the ICAC, involved Gammon Construction, which employed the leader through the Labour Importation Scheme. The ICAC urges workers to report any bribery incidents and continues efforts to educate imported workers on anti-corruption laws.
