It is advised that individuals who have interacted with or provided personal information through the suspicious website or login screen should immediately contact the bank using the contact details provided in the press release. Furthermore, they should also report the incident to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force by calling 2860 5012.
In addition, the HKMA wishes to remind the public that banks do not send SMS or emails containing hyperlinks that direct customers to their websites for conducting transactions. Banks will not request sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords, through phone calls, emails, or SMS messages, including those containing embedded hyperlinks. It is crucial for individuals to exercise caution and be vigilant when dealing with any requests for personal information or transactions through such means.
