The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued an alert to the public regarding a press release from China CITIC Bank International Limited concerning a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen. The HKMA has been informed about these fraudulent activities and provides a hyperlink to the press release on its own website for reference.
In the public reminder, the HKMA emphasizes that banks do not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct individuals to their websites for transaction purposes. Furthermore, banks will not request customers’ sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords, through phone calls, emails, or SMS (including embedded hyperlinks).
Individuals who have provided their personal information or conducted financial transactions through the fraudulent website or login screen are advised to contact the bank using the contact information provided in the press release. Additionally, they should report the matter to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force by calling 2860 5012.
