HKMA, HKIMR and HKUST co-organise the International Conference on Central Bank Digital Currencies and Payment Systems

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKIMR), and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) successfully co-organised the International Conference on Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) and Payment Systems. Attended by over 100 representatives from central banks, international bodies, academia, financial institutions, and fintech firms, the conference featured keynote speeches by Mr Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the HKMA, Dr Dong He, Deputy Director of the Monetary and Capital Markets Department of the International Monetary Fund, and Professor Markus Brunnermeier of Princeton University. The conference included panel discussions and academic presentations focusing on various aspects of CBDCs and digital payments. Speakers from central banks, international bodies, and academia shared their perspectives on topics such as the role of CBDCs in monetary policy, the coexistence of private and public money, and the future of the financial landscape. Mr Yue emphasized the importance of establishing a strong foundation for financial innovation and maintaining Hong Kong’s position as a leading financial center.
