The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is providing over $3 billion in funding for agricultural producers and forest landowners to participate in voluntary conservation programs and adopt climate-smart practices in fiscal year 2024. This funding is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda and is made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, which invests an additional $19.5 billion in USDA’s conservation programs. The aim is to support climate mitigation, environmental benefits, and economic opportunities for producers. The funds will help hundreds of thousands of farmers and ranchers apply conservation practices to millions of acres of land, promoting practices like cover cropping, wetland restoration, and tree planting. The application period for fiscal year 2024 is now open, but in the event of a funding lapse, support may be temporarily unavailable until funding is restored.
