The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is now accepting applications for grants worth $1 billion under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to support renewable energy systems and energy-efficiency improvements for rural small businesses and agricultural producers. The funding comes from President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which is the largest-ever investment in climate crisis combat in the country. The program aims to help rural communities recover economically, reduce climate pollution, increase resilience to climate change, conserve farmland, and invest in underserved communities. The maximum grant is $1 million for renewable energy systems and $500,000 for energy-efficiency projects.
