Amazon Launches Their Largest-ever Fleet of Heavy-duty Electric Trucks across Southern California
Amazon is introducing heavy-duty electric trucks in Southern California, including its first electric trucks for ocean freight operations. This is part of Amazon’s global investment in electric vehicles and marks its largest fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks in any country. The trucks, which produce zero tailpipe emissions, will be used for hauling cargo containers and customer packages in the first- and middle-mile operations. Additionally, Amazon has deployed electric drayage trucks at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach for transporting containers to an Amazon facility in Santa Fe Springs. The company aims to decarbonize its delivery operations and reduce emissions across its transportation network.
In addition to the electric trucks, Amazon is investing in alternative fuels such as green hydrogen and biofuels to further reduce carbon emissions in its trucking and maritime operations. The company has also established partnerships and invested in startups developing sustainable technologies and services. Furthermore, Amazon is actively working to achieve its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and has numerous sustainability initiatives in California, including renewable energy projects and support for local communities. The company has created a significant number of jobs in the state and made substantial investments in infrastructure and various sectors of the economy.
