ERM Launches Carbon Credit Consulting Business

ERM, a sustainability advisory firm, has launched ERM Climate Markets, a new business aimed at assisting companies in addressing their greenhouse gas emissions and achieving decarbonization goals through investments in carbon credits. With the rising demand for carbon offset projects and credits expected in the coming years, ERM Climate Markets aims to support companies as they pursue net-zero ambitions and utilize offsets to balance unavoidable emissions or complement their emission reduction efforts. However, the carbon credit market faces challenges related to the lack of differentiation between high and low-quality projects and insufficient data to assess project effectiveness. Alex Cox, Head of Climate Markets at ERM, emphasized the increasing importance of carbon markets for global net-zero ambitions and their potential to drive finance flows for nature and sustainable development. ERM Climate Markets will assist companies and investors in accessing high-quality carbon credit portfolios aligned with their decarbonization actions, while also considering social, biodiversity, and economic benefits. The team will collaborate with project developers to offer clients development opportunities that deliver positive climate, community, and ecosystem outcomes, providing enhanced due diligence to mitigate investment risks. ERM’s CEO, Tom Reichert, highlighted that the introduction of ERM Climate Markets aligns with the evolving needs of clients as carbon credit strategies gain momentum, complementing the firm’s existing work in supporting clients throughout their decarbonization journeys.
