Salesforce Unveils Sustainable AI Policy Principles and Climate-Focused Initiatives

Salesforce has introduced the Sustainable AI Policy Principles, a framework aimed at guiding AI regulation to minimize environmental impact and promote climate innovation. By prioritizing responsible AI development, organizations can make a positive impact while ensuring equity and sustainability remain at the forefront of their efforts. The principles provide best practices for lawmakers and regulators, such as managing and mitigating the environmental impact of AI models and spurring climate innovation through policies that incentivize the environmental application of AI. Salesforce is also supporting climate nonprofits through its Salesforce Accelerator – AI for Impact program. The selected organizations will receive technology, investments, philanthropy, and pro bono consulting from Salesforce experts to develop AI-powered initiatives in climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience, and climate finance. Among the five nonprofits chosen for the accelerator program is the Climate Collective Foundation, which aims to streamline and catalyze the climate tech startup investment process using AI. Good360 plans to leverage AI to optimize logistics and reduce its carbon footprint by efficiently matching, shipping, and delivering donated supplies to communities in need. Groundswell will use AI to tailor and personalize its equitable solar projects and clean energy programs, driving equitable access to renewable energy. The Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) will collaborate to develop a global blue finance marketplace that uses AI to match investors with projects and enhance resilience for climate-vulnerable coastal communities. WattTime will create an “AI Assistant” to provide self-service access to resources and reach more organizations with energy-saving solutions.
