Climeworks Launches New Carbon Removal Portfolio Service
Climeworks, a Zurich-based Direct Air Capture (DAC) company, has launched a new service called Climeworks Solutions. This service aims to provide companies with customized carbon removal portfolios that encompass various carbon removal technologies and solutions. Climeworks, which has been a leading DAC provider since its establishment in 2009, recently raised significant funding to scale its DAC capacity and is nearing completion of its new Mammoth DAC facility. The company’s decision to expand beyond DAC-based removals is driven by increasing customer demand and the need to scale the carbon removal industry to address climate change comprehensively.
Climeworks Solutions will offer tailored solution packages that meet the strategic priorities, timing, quality, and budget of individual companies. These portfolios can include not only DAC but also other carbon removal solutions such as afforestation and reforestation, biochar, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, and enhanced weathering. Climeworks will ensure that the solutions undergo thorough due diligence and third-party verification. Swiss luxury watchmaker Breitling has become the first customer of Climeworks Solutions, entering into a 12-year agreement that incorporates Climeworks’ DAC technology and enhanced weathering to address their hard-to-abate emissions. The launch of Climeworks Solutions signifies Climeworks’ expertise in the carbon removal industry and its commitment to meeting the diverse needs of companies in their climate action efforts. By providing high-quality carbon removal portfolios, Climeworks aims to contribute to meaningful social and environmental impact while helping companies achieve their sustainability goals.
