The UK Energy Secretary has taken a common sense decision to shore up UK energy supply as the nation transitions to net zero.
The government has committed to support the building of new gas power station to maintain a safe and reliable energy source for days.
The UK is the first major economy to cut its emissions by half since 1990s, the US not at all and China’s emissions are up by 300%. The UK built the 5 largest operational offshore wind farm projects.
The Energy Secretary has set out plan to boost gas power capacity, by broadening existing laws requiring new gas plants to build net zero ready and convert low carbon alternatives such as carbon capture and hydrogen to power. There is still plenty to do and it is crucial to move beyond. The energy industry is ready to tackle these issues and we need to work on fortifying energy security, ensuring a stable present and a resilient future.
