CEO of SFC delivered speech at Securities Futures Commissions Regarding Greenhouse Emissions.
The speech aimed at carbon emission indicators. Leung mentioned that most major economies have set carbon reduction goals. Many financial institutions, such as banks, fund companies, insurances, and pension managers also have joined different net zero alliance and set roadmaps for emission reductions.
Intermediaries required companies to provide data on greenhouse gas emissions when investing or financing.
It was mentioned that the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited has entered the final stage of formulating climate related information disclosure requirements for Hong Kong listed with reference to sustainable disclosure standards.
Leung mentioned that these carbon emissions are closely related to future operations and business. Large and multinational companies need to consider the carbon emission of their supply chains, including raw material production, processing and transportation when calculating their emission production performance. Companies may miss out investment and financing opportunities if they do not make appropriate sustainability disclosures.
As Hong Kong capital market regulator, the Securities and Future Commissions is committed to promote sustainable corporate disclosure so investors can obtain reliable and useful information, price assets reasonably and make smart investment decisions. This will support Hong Kong enterprise to obtain more and better investment and financing opportunities and consolidate Hong Kong status as international financial center.
