OceanWell and Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) have partnered to launch California’s first Blue Water farm, a pilot project that aims to address water scarcity and reliability. The project will utilize OceanWell’s advanced technology to extract fresh drinking water from the deep ocean. By employing proprietary water purification methods, the project aims to produce clean, safe drinking water while minimizing the environmental impact associated with traditional coastal desalination methods. The collaboration is particularly significant as the region is recovering from a prolonged drought, and diversifying LVMWD’s water portfolio is crucial for mitigating future climate change effects. The pilot project will commence testing in the Las Virgenes Reservoir located in the City of Westlake Village.
