The World Economic Forum and Airports Council International have launched a new initiative, Airports of Tomorrow, aimed at overhauling global airports in pursuit of net-zero aviation. The initiative brings together over 50 executives from the aviation ecosystem to mobilize the billions of dollars needed to transform airports into clean energy hubs. The initiative will enable airports to harness the power of new technologies such as hydrogen and battery electric flight, sustainable aviation fuels, and the electrification of airport operations. Airports of Tomorrow members include Airbus, Boeing, Neste, LanzaJet, London Heathrow, etc. The initiative will focus on supporting airports to make profound changes to their operations and infrastructure to enable net-zero aviation and will entail huge changes in infrastructure, both on and off airport sites.
