Johnson Matthey and Hystar Agree to Strategic Hydrogen Partnership

Johnson Matthey and Hystar have entered into a three-year strategic supply agreement to increase the production of renewable hydrogen. Under the agreement, Johnson Matthey will supply Hystar with key components for electrolysers called membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs). The partnership began in 2021 and focused on developing and scaling up electrolyser stacks. Johnson Matthey will provide MEAs for the Hystar PEM electrolysers used in the HyPilot project in Norway. Hystar has already exceeded the Clean Hydrogen for Europe 2030 targets for clean hydrogen production according to recent test results. The partners will continue to work together to enhance the performance of Hystar’s electrolysers and incorporate circularity principles into the system. They will work together to further scale up and automate Hystar’s planned multi GW production line, which is expected to be operational by 2025.
