Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama has entered into a power purchase agreement with Huntsville Utilities and Toyota Tsusho America to support a new solar project that will soon generate over 70% of its power from the sun. The solar facility, which will be situated in the North Huntsville Industrial Park, is expected to produce 62,000 megawatt hours annually, resulting in a reduction of approximately 22,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year. The 30-megawatt solar-generated system will be owned by Toyota Tsusho America and will be in charge of its long-term operations. The solar facility is slated to start generating solar energy in the summer of 2024.
