The European Commission has proposed launching the Net-Zero Industry Act and the European Critical Raw Materials Act to ensure the EU’s place in the race to scale up clean tech industrial capacity for the net-zero energy transition. These proposals are part of the EU’s Green Deal Industrial Plan, which aims to enhance the competitiveness of Europe’s net zero industries and support the EU’s transition to climate neutrality. The Net-Zero Industry Act proposes measures to scale up the manufacturing of technologies key to achieving climate neutrality. At the same time, the Critical Raw Materials Act identifies a list of strategic raw materials for the EU’s green and digital ambitions, as well as for defence and space applications. The proposals include the following:
- Streamlining permitting processes.
- Setting up regulatory sandboxes.
- Establishing a Net-Zero Europe Platform for member states and the Commission to coordinate action and exchange information.
